Ideas of Equilibrismus

Aus der Erkenntnis heraus, dass wir auf den heute beschrittenen Wegen in immer verheerendere Katastrophen sowohl ökonomischer als auch sozialer, vor allem aber ökologischer Art geraten, wollen wir der Politik, die ihre Entscheidungen am Gängelband der Wirtschaft trifft und dies als alternativlos propagiert, zeigen, wie sich das anbahnende Desaster verhindern lässt. In erster Linie geht es uns aber darum, den Bürgern eine andere, eine bessere Welt begreifbar zu machen. Die Menschen sehen zwar, dass das derzeitige System nicht funktioniert, trotzdem stehen sie jedem neuen Konzept äußerst skeptisch gegenüber. Veränderungen sind für die meisten nur innerhalb des bestehenden Systems denkbar.

Wir haben es aber nicht mit Fehlern im System zu tun, sondern mit einem fehlerhaften System. Das Herumdoktern an den Symptomen bringt uns nicht weiter, wir müssen eine radikale Kehrtwendung vollziehen und an die Ursachen einer fatalen Fehlentwicklung gehen. Dies aber geht nur, wenn wir uns gedanklich vom bestehenden System lösen. Man muss also das Neue als komplexe Einheit darstellen, um die Zustimmung der Menschen zu bekommen.

Based on the realisation that the paths we are taking today are leading us into ever more devastating catastrophes of an economic, social and above all ecological nature, we want to show politicians, who make their decisions under the control of the economy and propagate this as having no alternative, how the impending disaster can be prevented. First and foremost, however, we want to make a different, a better world comprehensible to the citizens. Although people see that the current system does not work, they are extremely sceptical of any new concept. For most, change is only conceivable within the existing system. However, we are not dealing with flaws in the system, but with a flawed system. Tinkering with the symptoms will not get us anywhere; we have to make a radical U-turn and go to the root causes of a fatally flawed development. But this is only possible if we mentally detach ourselves from the existing system. So we have to present the new as a complex entity in order to gain people's approval

Wo die Evolution sich in Maßeinheiten von Jahrmillionen und – wenn es schnell ging – Jahrtausenden bewegte, sich immer sehr vorsichtig vorantastend, drücken wir auf’s Gas, bringen Veränderungen im Stundentakt. „Globale Beschleunigungskrise“ nannte der Astrophysiker Peter Kafka dieses Phänomen: wir haben keine Zeit zur Erfolgskontrolle, zum Testen der Auswirkungen eines Eingriffs. Alle Neuentwicklungen müssen möglichst schnell und global eingesetzt werden, um die Investitionen wieder hereinzuholen.

Whereas evolution moved in units of millions of years and - when things were moving fast - millennia, always advancing very carefully, we are stepping on the gas, bringing changes every hour. "Global acceleration crisis" is what the astrophysicist Peter Kafka called this phenomenon: we have no time to check the success, to test the effects of an intervention. All new developments have to be deployed as quickly and globally as possible to recoup the investment.

Wir hebeln die Welt aus ihren Angeln, obwohl wir nicht in der Lage sind, sie dann im Gleichgewicht zu halten; so wird sie auf uns niederstürzen und uns begraben. Doch da es viele waren, die an verschiedenen Stellen gehebelt haben, wird niemand sich verantwortlich fühlen, niemand wird zur Rechenschaft gezogen – aber wir alle werden die Folgen tragen müssen. So verfährt der angebliche homo oeconomicus mit seiner Umwelt: erst gibt er viel Geld aus, sie zu zerstören, dann investiert er Unsummen, sie zu retten.

We unhinge the world, although we are not able to then keep it in balance; so it will come crashing down on us and bury us. But since there were many who leveraged at different points, no one will feel responsible, no one will be held accountable - but we will all have to bear the consequences. This is what the alleged homo economicus does with his environment: first he spends a lot of money to destroy it, then he invests vast sums to save it.

Die Rolle des Menschen für den Weitergang des Lebens auf dieser Erde ist so entscheidend wie die Arbeit eines Restaurators für ein beschädigtes Kunstwerk. Nimmt er die richtigen Materialien und versteht seine Arbeit als Dienst am Original, wird es gerettet. Meint er hingegen, bessere Ideen als der Autor des Werkes mit selbst entwickelten Mitteln umsetzen zu können, wird auch der vorhandene Rest noch zerstört.

The role of man in the continuation of life on this earth is as crucial as the work of a restorer for a damaged work of art. If he uses the right materials and sees his work as a service to the original, it will be saved. If, on the other hand, he thinks he can implement better ideas than the author of the work with means he has developed himself, the existing remnant will still be destroyed.

Nach der Zersplitterung der UdSSR und der deutschen Vereinigung galt es als endgültig bewiesen, dass der Kapitalismus das einzig funktionierende, weil erfolgreiche Wirtschafts- und Gesellschaftssystem sei. Stimmen, die davor warnten, dass der Kommunismus zwar tot sei, der Kapitalismus aber todkrank wäre und somit kein Grund zur Freude bestünde, wurden als unqualifiziert abgetan. Erst seit an den Finanzmärkten das Fieber in solch bedrohliche Höhen stieg, dass mehr und mehr das gesamte Geldsystem und mit ihm die Realwirtschaft zusammenzubrechen drohte, mit dramatischen Folgen für die Demokratie, darf laut über die Kehrseite unserer Wirtschaftsordnung nachgedacht werden.

After the fragmentation of the USSR and the German unification, it was considered definitively proven that capitalism was the only functioning, because successful, economic and social system. Voices that warned that communism was dead, but capitalism was deathly ill and thus there was no reason to rejoice, were dismissed as unqualified. Only since the fever on the financial markets rose to such threatening heights that more and more the entire monetary system and with it the real economy threatened to collapse, with dramatic consequences for democracy, was it permissible to think aloud about the downside of our economic system.

Die Kritik am Kapitalismus gehört inzwischen zum guten Ton. Allerdings beschränkt sie sich auf die „Auswüchse“ und dementsprechend zielen die Forderungen auf eine „Zähmung des Raubtierkapitalismus“ und auf eine „Rückkehr zur sozialen Marktwirtschaft“. Letztere wird als die gute Form des Kapitalismus dargestellt; ihre Ingredienzien bestehen aus einer Mischung aus staatlichen Geboten und persönlicher moralgeprägter Selbstbeschränkung. Die große Frage aber bleibt: warum wir ein Raubtier domestizieren wollen, dem Unbändigkeit und Expansionsdrang bis zur Selbstzerstörung im Blut liegen? Gibt es wirklich keine Alternative zum Kapitalismus als den Sozialismus/Kommunismus?

Criticism of capitalism is now part of the good tone. However, it is limited to the "excesses" and accordingly the demands are aimed at a "taming of predatory capitalism" and a "return to the social market economy". The latter is presented as the good form of capitalism; its ingredients consist of a mixture of state imperatives and personal morality-based self-restraint. But the big question remains: why do we want to domesticate a predator that has unruliness and expansionism in its blood to the point of self-destruction? Is there really no alternative to capitalism other than socialism/communism?

Der Equilibrismus e.V. mit Sitz in München wirbt für ein völlig neues Konzept und behauptet, Kapitalismus und Kommunismus hätten mehr Gemeinsamkeiten als Trennendes, darunter vor allem den Zwang zur rücksichtslosen Ausbeutung der natürlichen und menschlichen Ressourcen.

Equilibrismus e.V., based in Munich, promotes a completely new concept and claims that capitalism and communism have more in common than what separates them, including above all the compulsion to ruthlessly exploit natural and human resources.

„Das Konzept des Equilibrismus strebt nach einem Ausgleich zwischen Ökologie, Ökonomie, Politik, Sozialem und Kulturellem. In einer Zeit, in der das ausschließlich ökonomische Denken um sich greift und die Wirtschaft auf globaler Ebene omnipotent wird, ist dieses Ziel dringlicher denn je.“ – Mit diesen Worten unterstützte Sir Peter Ustinov kurz vor seinem Tode die Bestrebungen des Equilibrismus in seinem Geleitwort zum gleichnamigen Buch.

"The concept of equilibrism strives for a balance between ecology, economy, politics, social and cultural. At a time when exclusively economic thinking is rampant and economics is becoming omnipotent on a global scale, this goal is more urgent than ever." - With these words, Sir Peter Ustinov supported the efforts of Equilibrism in his foreword to the book of the same name shortly before his death.
 

Worin sich der Equilibrismus von allen anderen Konzepten unterscheidet, ist vor allem seine biozentrische Ausrichtung statt der sonst anzutreffenden anthropozentrischen Sicht. Solange sich der Mensch als über der Natur stehend und somit getrennt von ihr empfindet, solange trägt er mit seinen Aktivitäten zur Destabilisierung und zu Ungleichgewichtungen bei. Dies führt dazu, dass die Lebenssituation großer Teile der Menschheit (aber auch aller anderen Lebewesen) prekär und gefährdet bleibt

What distinguishes equilibrism from all other concepts is above all its biocentric orientation instead of the anthropocentric view usually found. As long as man feels himself to be above nature and thus separate from it, he contributes to destabilisation and imbalances with his activities. This leads to the fact that the living situation of large parts of humanity (but also of all other living beings) remains precarious and endangered

GLOCALIS ist die Vision von diesem Weltstaat und mehr noch das Bild von einer Menschheit, die diesen Weltstaat trägt und die sich als vereinte Menschheit begreift und in diesem Weltstaat organisiert. Gibt es diese große „Wir“, das sich z.Zt. auf Nationalgefühle zu beschränken scheint, dann ist damit eine wesentliche Voraussetzung für das friedliche Miteinander und die Vermeidung von Krieg geschaffen. GLOCALIS is the vision of this world state and even more the image of a humanity that carries this world state and that understands itself as a united humanity and organises itself in this world state. If this great "we" exists, which at present seems to be limited to national feelings, then an essential prerequisite for peaceful coexistence and the avoidance of war is created. We can devote our creative energies to the creation and fair distribution of goods and we can devote ourselves to the beautiful things in life. (K. Waldecker)

Dann gibt es auf dieser Erde auch schon viele kleine Lebensgemeinschaften die in einer anderen Lebensform leben.

Then there are already many small communities on this earth that live in a different way of life.
